Kia ora and talofa lava, welcome to the website of the HCN Unit.

The High and Complex Needs Interagency Strategy is funded by the Ministries of Health and Education and Child Youth and Family Services.

The Strategy promotes collaboration and is about working together across agencies to improve outcomes for children and young people with high and complex needs.

"Me mahi tahi tātou: together we will work as one".

It makes sense to work together to solve common problems and the Strategy provides a collaborative framework for all levels - from the frontline to local and national managers.

The HCN Unit promotes the Strategy and collaboration between sectors, agencies, service providers and professionals by:

  • supporting interagency collaboration
  • collecting and managing information
  • allocating funding for Interagency Plans
  • and reporting to Ministers and stakeholders.

Care Study Update: Matiu continues to achieve the goals set out by his Interagency Plan, which included maintaining his attendance and academic progress, and developing his coping skills to manage his anxiety. Recently, Matiu (Year 6) was voted House Captain by his peers and he had to present a speech which he wrote himself. "How's that for achieving a long-term goal!" said the GSE Service Manager involved in Matiu's case.
