Measuring client progress

The team planning resources support interagency teams to develop comprehensive, individualised plans with specific and measurable goals.

Goal attainment scaling

Goal attainment scaling provides teams with a way of measuring progress. It also allows us to gather information about what works - across the population or for specific needs or groups within the population. We can then share what works with others.

Supporting resources

Here is some more information about goal attainment scaling:

  • Best practice outcome measurement for children and young people with high and complex needs: a report by Massey University's School of Psychology exploring outcome measurement tools (including goal attainment scaling), their use in New Zealand and agency views on the application of measurement tools used when working with complex cases.
  • Addressing high and complex needs: planning and measuring client progress: this document describes the link between the Massey report and the team planning resources, identifying where resources support the planning process.
  • Team planning resources: these resources help teams create clearer, individualised interagency plans that engage the child, encourage collaborative analysis, include good practice interventions, and include specific, measurable and achievable goals.
